Cornish Art from the David Tovey Collection

  • The Sherborne Newland Sherborne UK (map)

Discover the remarkable artistic heritage of Cornwall through the eyes of collector, author and art historian David Tovey.

Opening on Saturday 24 October, this exhibition brings together works from Tovey's private collection, exploring the artists, landscapes and communities that made Cornwall one of Britain's most celebrated artistic centres.

From the harbours of St Ives and Newlyn to the artistic communities of Lamorna and Polperro, the exhibition reveals the people and places behind an extraordinary chapter in British art.

But this is also a personal story of collecting. David Tovey's passion for Cornish art began with research into his great-grandfather, the artist William Titcomb, and developed into a lifelong journey of discovery.

Rather than following a conventional chronological history, the paintings invite visitors to explore unexpected connections through colour, composition, atmosphere and the collector's own eye.

Whether you're already familiar with the artists of Cornwall or discovering their work for the first time, this is an invitation to look a little closer and enjoy the stories behind the art.
