About The Sherborne House Trust

Preserving History, Inspiring Creativity

The Sherborne House Trust 2018 is an independent charitable trust formed to acquire, restore, and maintain the historic Sherborne House in Dorset. Founded through the generosity of the late Michael Cannon, the Trust is dedicated to transforming this Grade I listed building into a vibrant public arts venue, where history and creativity come together.

Our Mission

The Trust exists to preserve Sherborne House, including its remarkable Thornhill Mural, while providing opportunities for public engagement in the arts. Our charitable objectives focus on restoration, maintenance, and education, ensuring that the house remains a place of cultural significance and artistic inspiration for generations to come.

Our Story

Formed in 2018, the Trust took on the mission of a previous charitable organisation that was dissolved that year. Following the acquisition of Sherborne House’s freehold, major restoration work began with the aim of returning the house to its former glory. After extensive restoration, Sherborne House opened to the public in spring 2024, offering a welcoming space for enjoyment and participation in the arts.

How We Work

The Trust’s activities include the careful restoration of the house, preservation of its historic features, and promotion of education and engagement in the arts. Our work is made possible through donations, membership, and income-generating activities, all of which support the ongoing care and programming of Sherborne House.

Looking Ahead

As Sherborne House continues its journey as a public arts venue, The Sherborne House Trust remains committed to creating a space that celebrates both the rich history of the building and the creativity of its community. We invite everyone to join us in preserving this historic treasure and experiencing the arts in a unique and inspiring setting.
