Sherborne named one of Condé Nast Traveller’s best places to go in the UK in 2026
We’re delighted to see Condé Nast Traveller spotlight Sherborne in its round-up of the best places to go in the UK in 2026 (published 3 February 2026).
In the feature, Sherborne is celebrated for its “artsy crowds” — from the characterful honey-stone streets and historic architecture (with Sherborne Abbey keeping watch) to the wider landscape of lake, meadow and woodland walks.
The Sherborne: a catalyst for Sherborne’s creative energy
We were especially moved to see The Sherborne described as a catalyst in the town’s recent creative momentum — and to be mentioned alongside the kind of cultural programme we’re proud to champion, including exhibitions featuring Quentin Blake and Sir James Thornhill (curated by our CEO, Liz Gilmore, formerly of Hastings Contemporary), plus film screenings and hands-on workshops.
The article also nods to the building’s own storytelling — an imposing Georgian townhouse where Charles Dickens once gave a famous reading — and we love that sense of “then and now” sitting side by side.
Make a day of it in Sherborne
If you’re planning a 2026 day out (or a slow weekend), Sherborne offers a wonderfully walkable mix of history, culture, and countryside:
Explore the town’s galleries, coffee spots, and independent finds.
Take in the big-hitters of Sherborne history — including Sherborne Old Castle and Sherborne Castle, both once owned by Sir Walter Raleigh.
Drop into The Sherborne for exhibitions, film nights, talks, workshops, and a dose of creative inspiration.
Plan your visit
We’re open daily, and we’re here to be enjoyed — whether you’re local, visiting Dorset, or plotting a future staycation.
And a gentle note: we’re a charity. Every visit, ticket, coffee, shop purchase, donation, and volunteer hour helps support our work and keep culture thriving in the South West.
