All the Beauty and the Bloodshed | Cinema at The Sherborne

£12.50

Join us for another carefully chosen evening of cinema at The Sherborne, presented in partnership with Cinemathèque.

Laura Poitras’ extraordinary documentary All the Beauty and the Bloodshed follows the life and work of acclaimed photographer and activist Nan Goldin, whose deeply personal art and fearless campaigning have challenged some of the most powerful institutions in America.

Through intimate interviews, remarkable archival footage and Goldin’s own photographs, the film explores her artistic journey, her experiences of addiction and her campaign to hold the Sackler family accountable for their role in the devastating opioid epidemic.

At the heart of the documentary is Goldin’s campaign against the art world's acceptance of Sackler philanthropy. Through striking demonstrations at institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, she confronts the uncomfortable relationship between cultural patronage, wealth and responsibility.

Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is both an intimate portrait of an extraordinary artist and a powerful examination of art as a force for change.

Described as ‘ferociously powerful’ by the Financial Times, this is compelling cinema that asks important questions about the institutions we celebrate, the stories they tell and the voices they choose to hear.
