£18.00

An evening with Dr Mark Baldwin, ‘Doctor Enigma’

Wednesday 28 October, 6pm–8.30pm
Tickets £18

What did it take to break one of the most formidable codes of the Second World War?

Join Dr Mark Baldwin, ‘Doctor Enigma’, for a fascinating evening exploring the extraordinary story of the Enigma machine, Bletchley Park and the wartime codebreakers who worked to unravel its secrets.

Over two parts, Mark will take us inside the world of wartime intelligence and codebreaking, exploring the Enigma machine, how it worked, the challenge it presented to Allied intelligence, and the remarkable efforts made to decipher the messages it concealed.

For nearly 30 years, Mark has travelled widely sharing the story of Enigma and Second World War intelligence. He has now delivered more than 1,000 presentations in Britain and internationally, as well as mounting Enigma displays with the Imperial War Museum and at RAF Cosford.

See a genuine Enigma machine up close

At the heart of the evening will be something very special: a genuine surviving Second World War Enigma machine.

Following the presentation, audiences will be invited to gather around the machine for a hands-on demonstration, with the rare opportunity to examine it, operate it and photograph it for themselves.

Presented alongside Turing Before Bletchley, The Sherborne’s exhibition exploring Turing’s school years and the beginnings of an extraordinary mind, the evening offers a compelling encounter with the machines, mathematics, secrecy and human ingenuity that shaped one of the most remarkable chapters of the Second World War.

Wednesday 28 October
6pm–8.30pm, including a 20-minute interval
Tickets: £18

Drinks and refreshments will be available during the interval, and The Sherborne Restaurant will be open for dinner afterwards.
