Alexandre Dumas’s The Three Musketeers has thrilled readers and audiences for generations, and with good reason. First published in 1844, it remains the most celebrated of the Musketeer stories: a glorious blend of adventure, intrigue, comedy and high-stakes drama.

At its heart is the young and hot-headed D’Artagnan, who arrives in Paris determined to prove himself worthy of joining the King’s elite Musketeers. Before long, he is swept into a world of duels, deception and divided loyalties, joining forces with Athos, Porthos and Aramis in a race to save the Queen’s honour. Along the way lie political plots, dangerous enemies, the shadow of Cardinal Richelieu, and the chilling presence of the unforgettable Milady de Winter.

Set against the rich backdrop of 17th-century France, this is storytelling at full gallop: romantic, witty, theatrical and gloriously entertaining. Expect sword fights, narrow escapes, quick-fire plotting and all the swagger and spectacle that make this classic such an enduring favourite.
