Cold War (2018)

  • The Sherborne Newland Sherborne UK (map)

From acclaimed Polish director Paweł PawlikowskiCold War is a masterpiece of passion, distance and desire, set against the shifting political landscape of post-war Europe. Spanning the late 1940s to the 1960s, it follows the intense and often turbulent relationship between Wiktor, a musical director, and Zula, a young singer whose connection endures across borders, years and impossible circumstances. What begins in Communist Poland unfolds through Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris, as music, memory and longing pull them together and apart.

Filmed in luminous black and white, Cold War is both intimate and sweeping: a love story of extraordinary beauty, carried by a haunting soundtrack and some of the most striking cinematography in contemporary European cinema. A deeply romantic and quietly devastating film, it is not to be missed.
