Sherborne Library pop-up comes to The Sherborne this July

This July, The Sherborne is delighted to welcome Sherborne Library as a temporary pop-up library while essential building works continue at the main library site.

Sherborne Library is a much-valued public service, providing books, digital access, information and community support for local people of all ages. While the library building remains temporarily closed for important safety works, Dorset Council has confirmed that significant progress has been made, with asbestos successfully removed and fire safety works formally signed off.

The council is now working towards reopening Sherborne Library on Monday 3 August, subject to final works and safety checks being completed.

In the meantime, The Sherborne is pleased to support the temporary library offer by providing a home for library services throughout July.

From Wednesday 1 July to Saturday 1 August, visitors will be able to access the pop-up library in the Art Room at The Sherborne. The service will support book borrowing, signposting, library membership and family activity during one of the busiest and most important times in the library calendar.

The pop-up will also support this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, helping children and families continue their reading adventures over the summer holidays.

There will be a lovely creative thread too. The Sherborne is also taking part in Culture Quest, a Dorset-wide project encouraging children aged 5–11 to explore cultural spaces, collect stamps in their passports and discover new creative experiences. Families visiting the pop-up library will be able to collect a Culture Quest stamp at The Sherborne and enjoy the wider house, exhibitions, café and gardens during their visit.

We are also working with the library team to explore family-friendly activities inspired by books, storytelling, illustration and Quentin Blake, whose joyful work has become such a loved part of The Sherborne’s programme.

The Sherborne is free to visit, with our galleries, shop, gardens and Pavilion Café open throughout the week. Whether you are coming to borrow books, collect a stamp, discover the exhibitions or simply enjoy a coffee after choosing your summer reads, we look forward to welcoming you.

Further details about activities and events will be shared soon.
